Tabbed windows

I tried to find a way to do tabbed windows like Safari. Since they appear integrated into the window title bar, I thought they might be part of the NSWindow class, but I don't see anything there. Does one have to create their own class for tabbed windows or is something built in to Cocoa? Is it possible for non-Apple program to integrate into the tool bar of the window?
