find panel buttons not enabling

if i have an NSTextView in a sheet and open the find panel, the buttons remain disabled. however, the find commands from the menu work fine. is the find panel not supposed to work if the key window is a sheet? or is this a known bug? any suggestions as to how to get the buttons to be properly enabled?

this is on built on and for 10.6.2.

thanx,
ken
