drag & drop / re-ordering

Hello,

I am looking to create a drag & drop mechanism that allows the re- ordering of items. Ideally it would work like the side bar in Finder windows, where one can drag items and their icons up and down.

Another way it could work would be like a horizontal film strip with thumbnail icons where the user could re-order things by drag and drop.

Any pointers to ways to make this happen will be appreciated.
