SRV record lookup

In one of my apps (Cocoa Desktop 10.6+ - not iOS) I need to perform some SRV lookups; I know there are a few ways to do this, but I'd like to know if anyone can speak from experience....from this link I can see that there are indeed a few different methods....any ideas?
