If I recall correctly, "ppc" is the basic, G3 architecture which is supported by the G4 and the G5 so even though the generated code would not be fully optimized to take advantage of the improvements in the G4 and the G5, I think it's fairly acceptable for PowerPC users. That's what I currently use for projects that support PowerPC.
