While what you are asking for does not sound patently unreasonable, this last sentence should almost never be the reason to make a particular design decision, especially when it comes to deciding to implement non-standard controls, etc.

OS X has its way of doing things that should be heeded when possible in your application. Again, I'm not saying that having a fully resizable window isn't the best thing for your application, but please decide based on a careful and informed human interface assessment.
