I am two steps away from completing this project, except here we are
taking inventory on 2M+ lbs of raw and finished goods, as well as
shipping/receiving etc... at the docs. The working prototype is siting
next to me, still needs a few tweaks like showing the completed shipping
lines as green :)
Using an iTouch (with wireless), Linea Pro
(wraps the iTouch, you've seen them at Apple stores, this gives us an
extra layer of protection, and a much longer scan range), MySQL library
for ARM chips, there are instructions on how to compile.
It works Great!
CAUSION!!!
MySQL is not something to leave open to a public network. Our
implementation is using a secured wireless connection INSIDE our
factory. If you are going to use the the public airways, I seriously
would consider creating a wrapper protocol on its own port for the
public side, that connects to the mysql database on the local server.

I work for a small company that is expanding rapidly right now and we are having issues with keeping PC's in order. We have been naming the PC's to match the port but that's not the best solution as you have to have the PC turned on to see what port it is in. Not to mention someone can make a mistake about naming the PC or about reading the port so it's not accurate. I have notice that all our computers have a barcode on re back that represents the derail number for that PC. I can get basic barcode scanner to read it which is great. I need a barcode scanner that I create (assuming getting an Barcode API is not too hard) to link o a database where I will store them to reflect which PC goes where. I wanted to know if you guys had any ideas on how much work this would take and time as well as the usability behind it. I think this would be a huge help in the accuracy of our PC's and the connivence of quickly scanning a PC and knowing where it should be. All IT in our company have either a company provided iPhone or one of their own so obviously I am using cocoa to do this, what do you all think?
