The underline is most likely being drawn to the end of the last character’s advance, which isn’t necessarily the same as the optical right margin of the glyph. Some typefaces have characters that stick out quite a ways past their advance, especially italics and swashy scripts.

If you want to be sure, try putting the same text someplace editable, then clicking at the end of the text to get an insertion point. Its X position will be at the advance of the last character.
