You must have had an unusually pedantic reviewer.

All the store rules stipulate is that 'you must not use an update mechanism other than the App Store'. You have met that requirement, therefore they have no reason to reject you. You may have used the word 'sparkle' in a method name totally unrelated to the Sparkle framework.

I agree though it's easier just to change it rather than appeal. Given the ridiculous delays in the review process, go with what's easiest. I guess you can't fight City Hall :(
