For just showing pictures, this is total overkill. Can you be more
specific about what you're trying to do? Are you generating or playing
back an animation, or just displaying static pictures?

The preferred way to play movies is the same as anything else: use the
highest level of abstraction that you can. Usually that's QTKit.
