Exactly. If you're asking "What was the state of mind of the person or persons who made that decision, at the time they made it?" then sorry, that answer seems not to be forthcoming. Maybe if you keep repeating the question you'll get the answer, but I wouldn't count on it.
If you're asking "Is there an ironclad argument for doing it that way that will answer all my objections?" then sorry, the answer is very obviously no, or at least it should have been obvious long ago in this thread.
If you're asking "Are there *any* reasons for doing it that way?" then the answer is very obviously yes. If those reasons don't satisfy you, then once again... sorry.
