Much Googling has determined that all I should need to do to compile
an arm assembly code file in Xcode is to give it the ".s" extension,
as well as use compiler directives to check whether I am building for
arm for for i386.
This isn't working for me in Xcode 4.2 for Snow Leopard. I think
Xcode is compiling it as a C file. No matter what I put in my
assembly source I get syntax errors that would be appropriate for a C
source file.
I can't figure out how to view the detailed build log. Where is that
hidden? Google yields no insight.
For example a file consisting of nothing but:
.align 2
gets "expected identifier or (".
Quite ironically, Xcode gets the arm assembly syntax highlighting right!
I'm calling my iOS App "Warp Life" because it is so fast. It is
already many times as fast as the competing Conway's Game of Life
implementations that are presently in the App Store. I've done quite
a bit of arm assembly in the past, and am quite certain that, at least
with arm code, I can beat the pants off of any optimizing compiler for
any high-level language.
Aside from my plans for arm assembly, I also plan to use some advanced
data structures and algorithms that might - just might - make my
overall algorithm the fastest Conway's Life algorithm in existence.
That remains to be proven though.
