Hi Dany,
I'm not sure what's wrong but, for what its worth, I use:
NSFont * aFont = [NSFont fontWithName: @"Cochin" size: 10.0];
aFont = [fontManager convertFont: aFont
toHaveTrait: NSBoldFontMask];
