This is not a Cocoa question. It's not even a Scripting Bridge question. What you're having trouble doing is scripting the Finder, plain and simple. You'd be better off asking on an AppleScript list.

PS But the answer to your first question is obvious: a closed window doesn't exist - you can't refer to it, so of course you can't change its size.
