What does CMDeviceMotion do if there is no gyro?

The CMDeviceMotion Class Reference says "Because Core Motion is able to track a device’s attitude using both the gyroscope and the accelerometer, it can differentiate between gravity and user acceleration." But what does it do if the device does not have a gyroscope... use low-pass and high-pass filters on the accelerometer data alone?
