When no one replies, it's usually the latter, but it might be something easy.

When a programmatically-created subview doesn't show for me, it's usually because I've screwed up its frame origin and placed it outside the bounds of the superview.  Pay attention to what -isFlipped.  Also, make sure your new subview is not 'hidden'.
