Missing creating date for items copied with copyItemAtPath:toPath:error:?

As anybody ever noticed after copying files to an external HFS+ drive using -[NSFileManager copyItemFromPath:toPath:error:] that the copied files would be missing their creation dates? I didn't even think it was possible but a user of my software sent me screen shots from the Get Info window in the Finder showing a dash (-) for the creation date.

I have learned that NSFileManager is unreliable when making copies but, how is that possible?

-Laurent.
