help with usb

I have a usb glucometer that keeps the user's blood sugar level in a database on the device. The data base file does not appear on the "thumb drive" part of the device but I would like to find it & use it. This involves learning how to program a usb device. I expect to do this, of course in Obj-C. Can anyone point me in the direction of some relevant literature regarding usb devices & how to read them? Thank you very much.
