ATSUI to NSLayoutManager rendering mystery

  • Subject: ATSUI to NSLayoutManager rendering mystery

Hey folks,

We're switching over from ATSUI offscreen text rendering to NSLayoutManager, but the glyphs don't seem to be looking as strong (sample images linked below). I'm hoping a text rendering guru here may be able to offer some suggestions as to what the issue could be.

It doesn't seem to be a bold issue since both are already bold (and removing the bold attrib for each respective sample causes a distinct change). Note how the glyphs are precisely aligned for each sample, which may suggest it's an antialiasing issue. The fill color is set to black in both cases, so I'm unfortunately out of ideas as to what's causing the difference. Perhaps it's possible I'm setting it but it's somehow getting wiped out by something else (or is being ignored?).

Thanks in advance, :)
