Date Added Attribute?

I have read about that new "date added" attribute in Lion in the Finder and I tried to get more information about it but I must not be good at formulating my Google queries correctly, I only get vaguely related results. I also did a search in the doc for "date added" and "extended attributes" but didn't find anything that would answer my question: how to retrieve this "date added" values for files in the file system?
