My quick dismissal that it "doesn't any sense" was about Kyle's suggestion that perhaps localizedCaseInsensitiveCompare isn't suitable for algorithms which require a transitive comparison operation.

I'm not actually using that method, it's just a nice compact name for the mailing list, and has the same errant behavior as -[NSString compare:options:range:locale:] and CFStringCompareWithOptionsAndLocale.
