FWIW, a few of my other devices posted the "There is an update for your device" today.
One thing I did notice is that if you sign on to developer.apple.com and you have notices from Apple to review and agree to, one of them just might be blocking you from downloading iOS6.
I agreed to mine and suddenly, iOS 6 became an option to select from.
FYI, at this moment, all the iOS 6 ipsw downloads are on the dev site are 6.0_10A403.
