Of course I realize this having had to reverse engineer several different DB formats over the years.

Of course I read all of the docs you provided me, and many others as well.
I realize that's my responsibility and it would be disrespectful of your help not to.
They do not seem to give a simple and lucid example that worked for me.
IAC reading alone does not always imply full and deep understanding.
Often only mistakes lead us along the learning path.
So thank you again for your help because I have now succeeded in making things work.
I looked at both TextEdit and Sketch and am beginning to now get a better understanding.
