FWIW I created a quick test app using NSTimer and didn't notice any lag at first but there was noticeable drift after a while -- not huge, but noticeable. This makes me suspicious of the docs that Steve Sisak quoted earlier, which I was counting on:

I'm trying again, this time creating a new NSTimer each time as suggested by Scott Ribe. Will let it run a while and see if I notice any drift.
