Something keeps toggling slow animations

I've noticed in the past that suddenly slow animations would be turned on in the simulator. I'm not selecting that in the menus, it just happens.
In the last hour it's been happening a lot. I turn them off, build a few times, then they're suddenly on again.
Is there some meta-key launch magic I'm invoking by accident?
