NSMutableCharacterSet bug in Mavericks?

My old code
NSMutableCharacterSet *charSet = [NSCharacterSet alphanumericCharacterSet];
[charSet formUnionWithCharacterSet:[NSCharacterSet alphanumericCharacterSet]];
[charSet formUnionWithCharacterSet:[NSCharacterSet whitespaceAndNewlineCharacterSet]];
[charSet formUnionWithCharacterSet:[NSCharacterSet punctuationCharacterSet]];
[charSet formUnionWithCharacterSet:[NSCharacterSet symbolCharacterSet]];
does not work in Mavericks (Xcode 5.0.1) and I have to test each NSCharacterSet separately. The formUnionWithCharacterSet method appears to be broken because only alphanumerics are recognized.
Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?
