Certainly that makes sense enough, just hoping against hope that there might be a certain exemption to it. Unfortunately I'm "stuck in the middle" of an existing workflow. I receive an NSData from an outside section, must delete certain cruft, add other fields, and pass it on. So I have to do this:
modifiableData = [ NSMutableData dataWithData: [ external call that gives me an NSData ] ];
Will get it working first, and if there's a performance panic, perhaps something can be done (but I extremely doubt it).
