On Sept 17, I filed a bug 18365579, on the slow behavior in Safari.
Hmmm, maybe I should file a separate bug on the underlying AppKit behavior. With two teams getting it in their in-box, it has a better chance of getting attention sooner :)
So I just did. It is 18394553. Both bugs now reference each other and the demo project:
