I've never used zombies in Instruments; I think that's a separate thing from using it in Xcode. All you need to do is follow steps 1-3 and run the app from Xcode. If a zombie object is referenced, an exception will be raised (so it helps to have an exception breakpoint set, if you didn't already.)
