It wasn’t intentionally private. It was just one of those cases where a post with a lot of invisible formatting got put on moderator hold for size. I was too lazy to repost, because Jerry had already quoted the relevant parts.

Jerry didn’t *want* to omit the getter. He just want to try something quickly with the setter, and didn’t realize it was going to come unstuck.
