Well, I have that set to "automatic". In that case, it prioritises the Trackpad over the mouse. I'd have thought that if you have a mouse, it should take priority over the trackpad, given that a laptop doesn't use a mouse by default, so if you plug one in you are telling it something about how you are going to use it, and if you have a desktop where you generally do have a mouse, any trackpad is an accessory and is therefore also a secondary input device. In both cases, the mouse should have priority.

Certainly, setting it to "always" does address the issue. I just don't think either the system default setting nor the way the auto setting prioritises the trackpad are good decisions.
