(Peeking back into this thread) Are you still worried about why buttons are 2 pixels shorter in toolbars? It’s clearly because Apple’s HI designers wanted it that way, so the engineers shrugged and implemented it. And since toolbar buttons are not implemented using NSButton, there’s apparently no way to replicate this appearance using that class. You could file a Radar.
