-performSelectorOnMainThread:withObject:waitUntilDone:modes: can handle NSRunLoopCommonModes, such as to ensure an animation continues to run in all run loop common modes. Does the block+GCD+dispatch_async approach support this, or is this a case where -performSelector: should be used?
