It sort of sounds like your main XIB or storyboard is failing to load. Possibly your file is set to compile for a later version of OS X than your deployment target.

Also, did you check in the system log (via the Console utility) for messages relating to your app? Occasionally, something relevant will be logged there but nowhere else.
