In my case, it turns out all the expired profiles are also Distribution, not Development, Profiles. For some reason, our Distribution Certificate is completely gone (rather than being there but expired).
So, it took me a while to figure out what was going on. Be nice if the error would say, "No DISTRIBUTION certificates found."
Why the Dist cert is missing, I don't know.
