I’m not sure what that means. I don’t recall anything new about windows or
layer backing in Mojave (but I may have missed something, of course).

The storyboard default for this did change at some point — but pre-Mojave, I
thought. Anyway, if you don’t want layer-backed views, you can turn the option
off in the View Effects inspector (the rightmost tab of the IB inspector
panel). I believe you’ll have to do this for each root view.
