The assumption that 1 Delta-E is the minimal perceivable step in L* is
incorrect. The human eye is capable of detecting a Delta-E difference of 0.5
or less in achromatic or nearly achromatic colors. What do your calculations
reveal when a Delta-E of 0.5 is used?
