I installed OS9 on my Umax S900/200 (same as a 9500/200). It is running
very smoothly and at the same apparent speed as the OS I replaced (OS 8.1).

I encountered only one conflict that caused problems. The ATM control panel
that comes with your older apps will crash the system. You need to upgrade
to the ATM that is supplied on the OS9 installation CD. (I believe it is
version 4.5.2)

Also, do not use FWB Hard Disk Toolkit to inititalize or update your hard
disk drivers. Use Apple's Disk Set-Up utility that is also supplied on the
OS9 installation CD. BTW, I reformatted my hard drive using Disk Set-Up.
It is running very smoothly now.

All of these issues are addressed in detail in the following papers:

http://lowendmac.com/macdan/2k1023mu.html
http://lowendmac.com/musings/os9-pf.html
http://www.umax.com/supermac/macos/os85.html

Hope this helps. It has been worth the effort.
