If you are referring to a change in the 5000 Rip that will mimic what is
being changed with the 7000 and 9000 rip, them we may see the additions of a
source profile and an output profile. Custom Source for CMYK is already in
there as "Simulation" but the use for a custom RGB source has been long
awaited. This has been added in the 1.4 and 1.5 versions of the 7000/9000
and 7500/9500 rips. They have also added an output profile feature as well.
This still will not allow you to have custom media types, but you can make
custom output profiles. The media types seem to only serve the purpose of
describing a particular paper's max black and doesn't describe color. The
output profile would control the color rendering on a particular paper
stock.
Again, this would only be the case if EFI was planning to release a similar
rip of the 5000. I just know that these are the features of the 7000/9000
updated rips. The addition of custom RGB source would be very helpful.
