The 1270 prints fantastic photo images, but offers a challenge for custom
profiling on several counts: it takes several hours of drydown for the prints
to stablize on the glossy papers usually used with this printer, even though
they look dry almost immediately. The special glossy paper hs highly whitened
leading to white point mismatches between the eye and the reading device; oh,
and the final prints may change color over time from ozone or other
pollutants... but the degree is variable and not something that can be
profiled for.
The 2000 offers prints that are a bit less sharp, and lower contrast, and
uses a semigloss paper that is not as highly whitened; but the encapsulated
pigment inks also may require some profile tweaking when a scanner based profi
ler is used. The larger problem with the 2000 is balancing colors specificly
for display under a certain light source; the inks are highly metameric, and
a print that looks great under incandescent will look very different under
fluorescent. This is accentuated in B&W prints, which is why Epson warns
users not to print B&W with this machine.
