I have been trying to adjust an input profile of the Lightphase digital camera
we use. I generated the
custom profile in Colorblind Profiler+ with a Gretag Macbeth chart. I
got "good" results but need to pull some red out of it as we shoot quite
a bit of furniture and have had our brown's going too red.
The way I attempted to adjust the profile was to embed our custom
profile in an image and open that image in CB Edit. No destination was
chosen. I read off of the actual piece of furniture with the color mouse
in CB Spot to get some LCH values to compare. I then compared those
values with the values off the image in Edit. Using Global edits I
adjusted the reds to approximate the LCH values I want. Next I saved the
profile...Type:Input...Includes:Input edits, Other edits. I then
reprocessed the image in our camera software embedding the new custom
profile. Opening that image in Edit showed me no changes to the
image...the new profile had no effect.
All of this work was done on a G4, OS 8.6, Colorsync 2.6.1,
ColorBlind MatchBox 4.0. I tried doing the profile adjustment with Edit
2.5.4 after the first couple of attempts with no success. I tried moving
to our second G4 and duplicated what I did again. No luck. Global edits
alone would not register in the new profile. I tried switching to an
abbreviated extension set using the base system set with only the
extensions I needed for the color mouse. Still no luck. I then moved to
our G3 Powerbook(9.04/cs 3.01) and performed the same steps. On this
machine I could
get a change in the new profile by making just Global edits.
Next, back on the G4, I tried to give Edit a little more to go
on...I adjusted the Input LUT's and then adjusted Global color. Saved
this profile and this new custom profile DID work, though it wasn't
quite what I wanted as far as color is concerned. The LCH values in the
image with this new profile didn't match the target LCH values though
visually I was closer than before. I am not sure the Global edits were
included in the new profile though I am confident the Input LUT's edits
were.
The current version of ColorBlind Matchbox Edit is V 3.0.0 and this is the
version that should be used. It looks like you you should have it since you
have Matchbox 4.0. Did you upgrade to 4.0 and not uninstall previous versions.
This can have a negative affect. Also, within Edit 3.0, lots of major bugs
were fixed and it was optimized to be ran under OS 9.04 and Color Sync 3.0.1.
You have the correct workflow in action. Edit is an application to "Edit" a
profile. Making global edits to color and saving those edits as a new Profile
is correct. Use Edit 3.0 on your G4 with the above configuration if possible.
