How can he get a good preview with paper simulation?
By you giving him your newsprint production profile.
To avoid phantasy proofs and to make sure everyone in the workflow has the
same description not only of the paper white, but more importantly of the
ink densities, everyone must use the same ICC production profile for the
printing process.
The notion that a newspaper company should not want to give out its
production profile is topsy turvy, because the production profile ensures
that the printing process runs optimally.
For instance, the Swedish newspaper printing organization has a standard
profile on www.tu.se, and each paper has it's own profile, too. This isn't
just of academic interest, IFRA research shows that in Sweden, claims have
dropped dramatically after things got properly organized.
(OK, best I own up. The joke is that there were more casualties among
Danish workers on Oresundsbron than among their Swedish workmates. When
workers were told of a hazardous excavation zone, the Swedes would follow
the safety instructions, and the Danes would approach the excavation to
check if the safety instructions were really necessary -:). Process control
in prepress and printing is also about everybody figuring out and sticking
to standard procedures.)
