People are outputting from U4ia, a clothing design CAD system.
As of right now I am not fond of any of the RIP's on the market for the
Epson 5000. I am currently testing the Praxisoft Mach1 RIP on the 3000,
5000, and the 9500. So far the results are a quantum leap over existing
solutions. I would advice anyone looking to make a decision to wait a few
weeks for this product. I will have the final candidate in the lab in
another few days.
The Mach1 will probably give you the best solution because it is not
restricted to accepting only postscript (.ps) files. You can send it a whole
scad of different formats and it just cranks them right out, fully color
managed. You may want to email Robert Eversole (email@hidden) or
myself offlist for a product tech spec sheet in PDF format.
As for monitors, there is a version of OptiCal that runs under SGI Unix
(Irix). So far I do not think any Un*x variant supports OS level color
management (neither does any Win-x variant either truly). Ironically, the
beleaguered Corel Linux has fantastic OS level and application suite support
for color management.
