Along these lines, let me share I problem I encountered when I first
launched Photoshop 6. The monitor display of an RGB file was noticeably
different even though my settings were identical to what I'd been using in
5.5. It turned out that 5.5 was pointing to my correct monitor profile. PS
6 showed the name of the monitor profile alias that appears in the Displays
folder of the Colorsync profiles folder. Further checking showed that in my
dual monitor setup, both aliases were pointing same profile... the one for
my cheap, old, 15" palletes monitor. In fighting with this for a while I
think I finally figured out that if I calibrate both monitors with Optical
(v2.5.6) and I do the little one last; it screws up the way the profile on
the main one loads. I see a good deal of unusual behavior on my system
regarding the interaction of those aliases in the Display Profiles folder
and the Monitor Control panel, Colorsync control panel, and Optical. Bottom
line is be sure those aliases are pointing where you think they are...
double check.
