With a good profiling package, I've produced pretty reasonable neutrals off
ink jet's like the Epson 1200 and 1270. IOW, I don't buy this excuse. It's
difficult to send out a 21 step wedge and get all 21 steps dead nuts neutral
but you can get very close! May take a tad of profile tuning. I made a
profile for an Epson 1270 for a class a few weeks back using Gretag's
ProfileMaker Pro and sent my printer test file converted to neutral (using
Channel Mixer) and got a very, very good neutral print with NO profile
tuning what so ever. For the 2000P, it's not going to happen. But the 1270
is certainly a 6 ink printer that with a good profile can produce a very
nice neutral print with the right profile. I should also point out that we
were sending RGB data to the printer without a RIP!
