I've never run an Approval but I've profiled a bunch of them with great
success. All I can tell you is that each time, I've simply sent my testforms
to the device and built the profile. I don't know what the Approval user did
prior to this but it worked as I expected and the final print job was very
good indeed. I see no reason you'd have any issues building a profile. That
said, it's never a bad idea to have the device set as close to an ideal
condition as possible.

First, the profile handles the dot gain issues to the device. 2nd, while
Kodak makes a very nice product for building profile to RGB devices
(Colorflow Profile Editor), they don't have much experience or strength in
dealing with CMYK output profiles. I've also found that you can talk to many
different Kodak employees and depending on who you speak to, you'll get
answers that range from "ICC profiles don't work" to "ICC profiles are
great, go for it." I got this typical Kodak response from a fellow
installing a Kodak LED printer (you can't profile it), to the product
manager of that device ("sure you can profile it"). Take what this Kodak
tech told you with a grain of salt. I'm sure the good Kodak CMS folks in
Lowel will be the source for good info on how or what limitations if any,
you'd run into with a Kodak output device. So far, I haven't found any
limitations to the devices from Kodak I've worked with!
