To have the UV filter permanently mounted is the best solution for me.
Assuming I always have viewing conditions which are virtually UV-free (at
least emit much lesser UV than the bulb in the Spectrolino) there are two
thinkable conditions:
1. No optical brighteners in the paper or similar UV effects in the ink:
No difference between readings with UV filter mounted/not mounted (except
the device's internal tolerance)
2. Printing condition (paper, ink) with optical brighteners: Readings
with UV filter mounted reflect the viewing conditions (D50 viewing booth)
much better than without UV filter.
The following printing conditions pointed out for me to be UV-critical:
1. Iris Realist with Iris paper (at least the old one).
2. Encad Novajet with GX (UV-resistant dye) ink; it seems to be the inks
(NOT the paper!!!) showing some strange effects when measured without UV
filter.
So I came to the conclution to always take my measurements with the UV
filter mounted.
Hope this helps.
