I have had some problems with that myself.
In Quark 4.0x you can use an Xtension that keeps RGB images in RGB
but let the CMYK values in boxes and text stay in CMYK. The Xtensions
name is PrintRGB and can be downloaded from Quark. In 4.1 they added
the CompositeRGB output option and it should replace the PrintRGB
Xtension but it doesn't really. The difference is that now everything
is output as RGB and this creates problem with colored boxes or text
when you want it back to CMYK through a profile.
The other applications, PageMaker, InDesign and FreeHand looks for
the %ÞfaultColorSpace setting in the PPD file and outputs
accordingly to what is said there, RGB or CMYK and the problem is the
same as with Quark 4.1, everything is CMYK.
We have a workaround for this that works. All image files are on the
OPI server and when it generates the Fat PostScript it replaces the
images with the HiRes RGB file. By doing this we get what we want,
RGB in the imagefiles and CMYK in text and boxes.
Not a perfect solution but it works.
This problem is something that needs to be addressed to the software
companies, if the images is RGB it shoud stay as such and the boxes
and text should stay as CMYK.
In our workflow we apply the ICC at the end when the PS-file enters
our Prinergy system.

Somebody can help?
