I can't see the drum on a neg scan in 4 at all. I use the auto button in the tool palette which allows me to see what I'm doing and then I reposition the sampling points within the image as I like after cropping.
I get great neg scans from Trident 4, colour and mono.

Mark, that's not the same thing I was talking about, I have a problem with "export to workingspace" when profiles are selected, the solution is to uncheck that option.
