I am realistic.
The iProfile bundle contains ProfileMaker and BatchMatcherPS, along with
GretagMacbeth hardware.
ProfileMaker and BatchMatcherPS are made by LOGO, which became a
GretagMacbeth group company as of January 1999.
LOGO was established by Stefan Brues who when he was still with FOGRA
helped join the threads that became the ICC. The LOGO people have also held
what amounts to an open university here in Europe which has allowed many to
learn. The European Color Initiative has its roots in LOGO evangelization
on behalf of open systems.
Right now you will find no better place to start learning about ICC
technologies than the LOGO 'PostScriptum on Color Management' available
from GretagMacbeth.
There used to be two versions of ProfileMaker, the GretagMacbeth OEM
version which supported only GretagMacbeth hardware, and the LOGO version
which supported GretagMacbeth, Techkon, and X-Rite hardware. After the
acquisition the LOGO line was continued.
GretagMacbeth has chosen to market the LOGO software in the US, which makes
it seem as if ProfileMaker is a new product. On the contrary, ProfileMaker
started by supporting the Apple ColorSync 1.0 format in the days when
printer profiles were still matrix-based.
If you don't know how to use ICC profiles, or you use broken software that
doesn't load profiles correctly, or uncalibrated hardware, or let process
control fly with the wind, then you will have bad quality. But that isn't
to do with ProfileMaker.
